Ballet is the foundation for almost all other styles of dance! The language of classical ballet was written in French; therefore we learn and speak French in our Ballet classes. Ballet technique is extremely important. Technique is learned by focusing on poise, posture and placement. Dancers become stronger, more flexible and have increased balance and endurance. Weekly curriculum includes the Ballet Barre, dancing across the floor both in groups and individually, and Centre exercises. A progressive choreographed dance routine is learned weekly.
The primary focus in this class is perfecting pointe technique. Students will gain strength, balance, flexibilty and confidence. There will be no choreographed dance routine in these classes. All focus will be on Barre, across the floor and centre exercises. This class will not perform in the Spring Recital.
Timing and rhythm are essential in learning tap. Students learn to make sounds they never thought were possible with only their feet! Learning in an a capella environment enables the dancer to hear exactly how the step should sound. Often times students demonstrate individually. Dancers learn to be quick on their feet, enabling them to gain coordination, control, speed, balance, agility and endurance. A progressive choreographed dance routine is learned weekly.
Pre-Jazz is an introduction to Jazz/Hip Hop. Students learn how to correctly and safely move their coordinated bodies to the beat of the music. Standing slow stretches, fast isolations, floor flexibility, and muscle conditioning are all included with the Jazz style of dancing. A progressive choreographed dance routine is learned weekly.
Jazz dance has several styles and methods, most of which are taught in this class. Jazz/Hip Hop concentrates on Classical Jazz, Hip Hop and a touch of Lyrical. Three very different styles of Jazz; however, all are derived from Ballet. Classical Jazz is medium paced and is based on style, utilizing both full body flexibility and isolated moves. Hip Hop or Funk is high energy, high intensity fast moving, fun filled dancing to the latest pop music. Lyrical is slow moving focusing on turns, releases and personal expression. All styles enhance flexibility, toning of the muscles and endurance. A progressive choreographed dance routine is learned weekly.
Lyrical dance is similar to modern. Both are trained and performed barefoot, both require strong flexible bodies to passionately execute center contractions, releases, turns, and floor work. The major difference between Modern and Lyrical is, Lyrical is choreographed in great detail and Modern is primarily self choreographed improvisation. A progressive choreographed dance routine is learned weekly.
This class will prepare you for any danceline/kickline audition for your local school dance team. This high kick class is a very high energy, fast paced, team-building form of dance.
